Dear Students,

For your one page reading report 1, you can write the report on any parts that you have read in your textbooks, Buddha 's teachings or handouts. In other words, you can write about anything listed before today s reading assignments. You can give a title to your report by yourself. You do not need to bring much of your critical thinking in this one-page report. You will have a lot of chances to do it later.

In De Bary's book, there are some very interesting short pieces from Buddha s teachings. You can also find out many interesting ideas and the original Buddhist texts in W. Rahula's. If you want to write your book report on the handouts, I suggest that you read both Gita and the Dhammapada and report the differences which you find out. It should be an interesting work.

The criteria for your book reports are:

                          a. Clear: you need to report what you have read in clear sentences.

b. Correct: you need to report what you have read correctly. Don't add in anything that is not belong to Buddhism.

c. Using your own words: you have to use your own words to summaries what you have read. You can quote from the textbooks or handouts but you need to give the source and page number after the quote.

Enjoy your readings and have a good weekend,
